Magnetic field energy harvesting (MFEH) is a method by which system can harness an ambient, alternating magnetic in order to scavenge energy. Presented this article novel application of the concept aimed at fields surrounding rail current electrified railway. Due its non-invasive nature, approach has potential be widely deployed as part low-cost trackside condition monitoring systems increase lifetime and reduce maintenance requirements. In work, viability MFEH railway substantiated experimentally -- two different configurations are assessed both controlled laboratory environment, well situ along Norwegian When placed near emulated section carrying 200 A laboratory, power output up 40.5 mW 50 Hz 4.15 16 2/3 Hz. field, prototype harvests 109 mJ from single freight train passing by, rendering estimated daily 1.14 J moderately-trafficked location. It argued that could indeed eliminate need for battery replacements, potentially energy-efficient, battery-powered indefinitely.
